~  Deicke Cemetery  ~

The Deicke Cemetery is on Hartfield Road just a few yards west of the Post Oak Cemetery. The exact history of this burial ground isn't exactly known "Tina" Schievelbein Zunker was the first one in the community to die. How or why she died at an early age isn't currently known.

The property at that time belonged to the Zunker family (I think) and that is why she was buried there. Later the property was sold to the Deicke's and that is the name that it currently bears.

A few years later land was donated for the Post Oak Cemetery and family burial on the Deicke Cemetery was discontinued.

How many people were actually buried here is not known, but currently there are three graves inside a chain link fence. They are detailed below....

Augustine K. E. Zunker geb. Schievelbein

geb 10 Jan 1848

gest 11 Jul 1884

Augustine was the 2nd child and 2nd daughter of Siegfried Schievelbein. She was only 36 when she died. I do not know why or how she died. I don't think she was married to Wilhelm Zunker for too many years and she had only been in America for 6 years.

When she came to America, she brought a daughter (Auguste Carol Emilie) with her. This daughter used the name Schievelbein instead of that of her father, so I don't think she was a Zunker. This daughter married a Mr. Pueschel and moved to Colorado.

I will try to research this line more, but if you have info to contribute, please do so.

Anna Emilie Schievelbein

geb 13 Nov 1879

gest 14 Oct 1882

Anna Emilie was the daughter of Julius and Johanna Schievelbein. She died when she was 2 years old of unknown causes. She was the first one to be buried on this burial ground. At least, of the three graves, her's is the oldest.

August Krueger was married to Henriette Achterberg. August was born about 1812 in Germany and it is unknown when he died.

His stone is fairly new, so perhaps it replaced an older marker.

It is unknown if Henriette had a connection to the Adhterbergs who lived nearby or to the Achterbergs who came over with and were married to a Schievelbein.  I feel there is a good probability, but have no documentation for it. I will try to research this more.

This couple had four children. The oldest one, Augusta, married August Wilhelm Deicke and there is where the connection came from to the Deicke Cemetery.
